台灣靜脈暨腸道營養醫學會

Dear members,

It is my great honor to have become the 11th and 12th President of our TSPEN Society. I sincerely thank you and the board for the kindly full support since May 5, 2013. The Society was founded on April 10, 1993 and has been successfully functioned for two decades. Our society has flourished due to the hard work and dedication from the five former presidents: professors 陳維昭(Wei-Cho Chen), 黃燦龍(Tsann-Long Hwang), 許自齊(Tzu-Chi Hsu), 賴鴻緒(Hong-Shiee Lai) and 張子明(Tzu-Ming Chang). We have not only improved the quality of medical care in Taiwan, made remarkable contributions to the Asian medical community, but also have been recognized worldwide. This accomplishment belongs to each and every member, who made the commitment and invested time and effort to our society. With the unity and cooperation among our members, I expect our Society to continue to grow stronger and create a new and even better chapter in our history.

Our society is dedicated to provide member with professional improvement and continue-education opportunities. Members get to meet, communicate and socialize during our spring and autumn meetings. On top of that, with the support from our board, we also cooperate with several medical centers to organize series of extensive training programs including Nutritional Support Team (NST) Operations, cancer nutrition, critical care nutrition, pediatric nutrition, geriatric nutrition, long-term care nutrition (including both EN and PN). Since September 2013, our Society had held four education courses in both northern and southern regions of Taiwan. Topics included the formation and operation of NST and the Taiwan Home PN Forum - From Guideline to Practice. In November, the autumn meeting was held covering topics of mechanisms of carcinogenesis, tumor nutrition, and pediatric nutrition. Members can access all conference programs and lecture notes from our Society website.

Our Society is also known to be active internationally. In past years, members have participated not only the Congress of PENSA, ESPEN but also ASPEN All participating members enjoyed both fun of trips and continued education to fulfill our wonderful life. We encourage our members to keep going on attending more international conferences in order to update the knowledge of nutritional therapy and to improve our ability and quality of medical care.

Several changes have been made in our Society to enhance communication efficiency and efficacy. First, our Society is now running on a paperless policy; email is used as much as possible for communication between members and Society. Second, Society website is now updating promptly to provide member with the latest information on meetings, conferences, extension training courses and new professional discovery in the field of nutrition. Furthermore, “Task Force Teams” have been established since Aug.2013 to ensure the proper functions and productive progress of our Society affairs. The mission is to create the guidelines for TSPEN and enhance the specialist accreditation of NST doctors, nurses, dietitians and pharmacists.

Lastly, I encourage all members to be active in our Society affairs. Your passionate participations and valuable suggestions would make our Society stronger and better.

Sincerely yours
Mei-Due Yang M.D., Ph D
